St. Peter's Response to COVID-19
(Update April 2, 2020)
As we continue to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak, it is easy to get caught up in the minute by minute anxieties of a crisis with such an unpredictable and global impact. It is essential, however, that the church continues to do what it is always called to do in the face of danger. We gather, in whatever ways we are able, proclaim that Jesus is Lord, worship him in Spirit and truth, serve one another and the world in which we live. We have an opportunity to ask how the church can find creative imaginative ways to love our neighbour and to embody Christ in the midst of a world full of anxiety and fear. We are required to discover creative ways for the people of God to be present as Christ in our communities, at home and abroad.
Meanwhile, there are some practical matters that require our attention.
Worship at St. Peter's
Good Friday worship will also be available on April 10 at 10:30 a.m. via Zoom.
Alternative Worship Options
Some possibilities for livestreamed worship:
- saint benedict’s table will have online Evening Prayer at 5:00 p.m. daily via Facebook.
- Anglican Lutheran Centre Sundays worship at 10 am https://www.twitch.tv/rupertsland
- Ante-Communion at St. James Cathedral, Toronto
- Christ Church By The Sea, Puerto Vallarta, Sundays at 10, Puerto Vallarta time, https://www.facebook.com/1043551459053492/
I encourage you to find a worship experience that seems compatible with your needs. Please let us know, and/or post on Facebook, if you discover one that you would like to recommend to others! We might consider this an ideal opportunity to worship with Anglicans throughout the diocesan, national church, or beyond.
Regular Financial Support
Everyone is encouraged to maintain their usual financial giving as expenses will continue as per usual. Those who support St. Peter’s financially through envelopes, please maintain your weekly and monthly commitments. You can place them in the mail slot at the front door, or send them through Canada Post. Perhaps this is an ideal time to speak with Shelagh about signing up for the P.A.R. program (Pre-Authorized Remittance).
Frequently Asked Questions
You will find this list attached and on St. Peter’s web site. We hope this will help keep the lines of communication open as we become informed of and adjust to important regulations.
During this time while we are not able to gather physically, let us remember that throughout all of this, we are bound together, with Christ at the center.
My prayer this week
Merciful God, in the stillness of our souls, we listen for your voice to know again that you are God. Quiet our restless hearts with the knowledge that you are near us, keeping watch over your own. Rekindle our faith and light the lamp of hope within our hearts. Then take us by the hand into each day that lies ahead, for where you lead, we can confidently go with Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. (Evangelical Lutheran Worship: Occasional Services for the Assembly; p. 291)
Let us continue to uphold in our prayers all those affected by this virus (directly and indirectly), along with those working tirelessly to minimize its spread.
Love and Blessings,
